The wind may have been the biggest winner, but it was SAB's Mike
Benjamin who prevailed in the trying conditions to record a
one-shot win over Brian McMillan at the weather-shortened 2009
Pilsener Urquell SuperSport Shootout at Pinnacle Point.
Former SA cricketer Brian McMillan, with some help from a lesson
with Don Gammon on the TV show Ultra Simple Golf, shot a nett 77 on
Saturday to take the joint first-round lead in near gale-force
winds in the Pilsner Urquell SuperSport Shootout at Pinnacle
Point.
The Pilsner Urquell SuperSport Shootout continues to grow in
stature and popularity, and in 2008 set a new benchmark for an
amateur celebrity golf event. While emulating the best attributes
of a pro tour event, the Shootout has succeeded in providing a
competitive yet relaxed and friendly environment for all levels of
golfers. This in turn has created a very special camaraderie among
the players, many of whom are leaders of our society.
A number of leading businessmen and sports stars will tee up in
this year's Pilsner Urquell SuperSport Shootout - we've profiled
five of the big names...

A cliff top sanctuary - January 2009
THE RUSH of golf course estates of the past few decades has brought
with it some of the most impressive golf courses designed by some
of the finest architects in the world, yet one suspects that few of
these superb lavouts will match Pinnacle Point in terms of
cliff-top coastal drama.
Whether you're looking for a haven where you can slow down and

Charities benefit from celebrity tournament - July 2008
The 2008 Pilsner Urquell SuperSport Shootout was again a tangible
reminder of why it is one of the most sought-after invitations in
South African golf. The fifth Shootout produced a worthy winner on
the course but many more off it, as the charity coffers were once

The award, by the American Travel & Leisure Golf Magazine, was
the first ever received by a South African golf course. This
remarkable accolade, as the only course outside North America to be
included, came as no surprize to course architect Peter Matkovich.
On first seeing the spectacular location he declared, "This is the
most dramatic site I've ever encountered."

Pinnacle Point reveals evidence of earliest modern human life - 23
October 2007
An international team of
researchers has uncovered three hallmarks of modern human life in
Cave 13B at Pinnacle Point Beach and Golf Resort. The startling
find included cooked seafood, ochre and bladelets. Anthropologist
Sally McBrearty (University of Connecticut) and palaeontologist
Chris Stringer (London Natural History Museum) believe that this
suggests early humans in Africa inhabited a cognitive world
enriched by symbols before 160 000 years ago.
Several newspapers reported on this discovery. Read more below:
"Leisure properties have increased in valeu between 20%-30% a year
over the past four years, and much of this growth was in fact
fuelled by the trend towards fractional ownership. Pinnacle Point
Holdings (PPH) sales and marketing director Dave McGregor says the
company has been surprised by the low "churn factor" of property
bought by investors on spec at its Pinnacle Point Beach and Golf
Resort on the Garden Route".
